Leung Wai-sze Jass
A performing arts critic and researcher who is interested in alternative performing arts spaces. Leung has published over 500 pieces of reviews, from theatre criticism to cultural criticism concerning Hong Kong theatre productions, visual art exhibitions, and new media projects, in newspapers, magazines, journals and conference materials. In 2015, Leung received the ‘Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York (HKETONY) - Asian Cultural Council Fellowship Grants’ and conducted an extensive research on alternative performing art spaces in New York. From 2016 to 2018, Leung had been invited by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (Hong Kong) to a research project titled ‘Hong Kong Theatre Aesthetic Study on Tang Shu-wing’. In 2019, Leung received the ‘2nd Overseas Training Scheme for Arts Administrators’ grant from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, which supported her in-depth thematic studies of the Berliner Festspiele (Berlin), Le Festival d' Avignon (Avignon), and Edinburgh International Festival (Edinburgh). Some of Leung’s recent publications include Redness and Drama: A Preliminary Study of the School Festival (co-author, 2011), A Study of Post-1997 Hong Kong Canto-pop Lyrics (co-author, 2011), and Words Field: Post-1997 Hong Kong Popular Music Lyrics Discourse (2016).
